about us

Downtown Waterfront MarketThe Downtown Waterfront Market launched May 24. Founding community partners were the Committee of 100, which made a one-time contribution of $10,000 to help launch the market; the Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, whose Tourist Development Authority board approved a request from the City of Elizabeth City to dedicate $6,000 of bed-tax revenues to the market; and the Albemarle Economic Development Commission, which put together the business plan for the market and secured funding from the Committee of 100 as well as Tourist Development Authority approval of the City's funding request.

Elizabeth City Mayor Steve Atkinson has been a tireless advocate for the Downtown Waterfront Market since the Albemarle EDC first floated the idea last fall. His support extends well beyond the ceremonial: Most Saturday mornings you can find him at Mariners' Wharf Park at 6:30 a.m. helping set up the market's tents.
